PreK Fashion Show

PreK Fashion Show
Unique Paper Bag Creations on Runway

This morning family and friends experienced the pinnacle of creativity at the St. James the Apostle School PreK Fashion Show.

The gymnasium was transformed into a runway flanked by rows of smiling parents and family members, cameras in hand.

The show was the culmination of a unit of study on fashion in which students read “The Paper Bag Princess” and created their own paper bag outfits unique to themselves.

As music played, teachers Karen D’Alessandro, Kelly Squires, Margherita Tama, Kalthleen Kappauf, Diana Poli, Michelle Verga, Beverly Veralli and Elaine Wilson each introduced their class of students one at a time with a zippy description of the student and the paper bag creation.

“Alejandro Morocho Tacuri, wearing a shirt inspired by his love of school, both casual and playful,” said Ms. D’Alessando.

Alejandro walked down the runway with a paper bag cut out like a dress shirt and tie, on the back cut outs of Paw Patrol.

“Carol Sola Encarnaction in an outfit called Loving the Colors loves colors and nature,” said Mrs. Tama.

Carol walked the runway, her paper bag decorated with flowers and birds, stopped and turned. The audience applauded.

“Dominic Basciano loves the NY Yankees and his outfit which has a number five is inspired by his favorite Yankee who is also Italian, Joe DiMaggio.”

More applause from the audience.

Runway looks included Iconic designs, latest trends, all the best styles, animal prints: a zookeeper, FDNY officer, beach bum, robot, ninja warrior, race car driver, Mario, traditional Guatemalan dress, artist smock and unicorn dress.

81 students walked the runway, some with a little help from a grownup, some with a smile and a pose–all of whom had their own creative flair. Afterwards, families were encouraged to take pictures in front of the star studded photo backdrop.

The Palmer Family was reveling in the moment: Lilith was wearing “Princess Dress,” which looked like an abstract painting in purples and greys with hot pink duct tape.

“What inspired your outfit?”

“Spray paint,” said Kyle Palmer, Lily’s dad,”she is the 7th generation of Palmers. All of our spray paint for her paper bag dress locally is sourced from Palmer Hardware.”
